In the "Honey Production Department" of the Apiculture Complex, honey collected from all parts of Romania is processed and manufactured into various products. The extensive process involves the filtering, mixing, melting, and bottling of honey. Most of these honey products are to be exported to Germany and other European nations, and they all undergo strict quality tests, such as measuring of the amount of pollen mixed in the honey (the pollen ratio), which is specified for each product. Pollen production is also done in a wholesale effort. "Actually, Romania, as a country, is a big producer of pollen." "It's obvious because we have such an abundance and variety of flowers all over the country." said Ms. Mateescu, who knew the Japanese word for pollen, kafun, one of the few words she learned while visiting Japan several years ago. The factory has a "Cosmetics Production Department" as well. The products from this department, also based on royal jelly and propolis, take such diversified forms as cream, hand cream, oral disinfectant, depilatory, sunscreen, shampoo, and so forth. They are used for beauty care in the salon of the aesthetic department of Apiterapia (the National Medical Center of Apitherapy).
