Amid calls for addressing the failings of education, it is important for a father to have a presence in a child's life. How can a father, being also a corporate warrior, best participate in family education.
Yamada: |
I cannot help but be concerned that the issues related to children and education are getting more serious year to year. Most recently, there was a report on a juvenile violent crime which, I suspect, is not an issue concerning a specific type of child but symbolically represents a state in which all children are now forced to live.

Ogi: |
Indeed. The majority of ordinary children show feelings of sympathy for frequent juvenile violent crimes, for example, by saying, "I know how they feel." Every child is being agonized by the same problems as the ones agonizing those who committed such crimes.

Yamada: |
Observing behaviors of children, I always feel that what they reflect is a society of adults, which is getting more self-centered as the pursuit of only material wealth and amenities increases.

Ogi: |
We used to try to find solutions to problems of children in an educational system, but I have the perception that we should rather review parental education, which can be regarded as the basics of education for all children.

Yamada: |
Most recently, the responsibility for education has become the role of the mother. The same applies to my family. However, in my view, it is necessary to recognize the presence of a father as well. No matter how hard he might work outside, neither a father nor his children will find happiness if the significance of the father at home is lost.

Ogi: |
At one time, there was strong role for fatherhood in the society, which prevented children's misconduct taught them about social morals. In contrast, it is often said that present-day fathers are deplorably too tame. Although fathers fight outside as corporate warriors, they now face many predicaments, such as corporate restructuring. It is true that fathers should do some rethinking themselves, but we must understand that the entire society is entering an era that requires that fathers take the initiative in playing their own role as fathers
